Pricing & how it works
Simple price, honest mechanics
steps.org is an app you keep on your phone — you add it to your home screen and open it like any other app. There's nothing to install from an app store, and it works on the phone you already have.
The price
That's the whole subscription. The only thing on top is reminder texts at $0.50 each — and they only fire when your timer runs low, so weighing in on time keeps you at exactly $10/month. Weigh in early and you never trigger one.
How the timer works
One clock, reset by showing up
- 01
Subscribe and your timer starts
The moment you subscribe, a rolling 48-hour timer begins counting down. That's the clock you keep alive.
- 02
Weigh in to reset it
Open the app, step on the scale, and snap the live photo. A verified weigh-in resets the timer to a full 48 hours. Do it roughly daily and it never runs low.
- 03
Let it run low and we text you
If the clock gets close to zero, you get a reminder text so a busy day doesn't quietly become a missed week. Each reminder text is $0.50.
Why a tiny charge
The $0.50 isn't the business — it's the nudge
We don't profit from reminder texts. $0.50 is roughly what it costs us to send one, and we'd rather you never get charged at all. The fee is there because it works, not because it pays.
steps.org is built on a well-replicated finding from behavioural economics: loss aversion — the fact, first shown by Kahneman and Tversky, that we'll work harder to avoid losing something than to gain the same thing. A few cents and a ticking clock on the line quietly flip "I'll weigh in later" into "I'll weigh in now." That small push is the tool doing its job — the same way it leans on exposure to wear down the fear of the scale.
