FAQ
Questions, answered
Everything about how the 90-day programme works — the money, the morning weigh-in, and your privacy.
- Is this a subscription?
- No. It's a fixed 90-day programme — 3 monthly cycles, then it ends on its own. Nothing renews, nothing to remember to cancel.
- What happens each day?
- One of exactly two things. Weigh in — a live in-app photo of you on the scale — before the morning hour you picked, and the month's level drops a dollar (never below the $5 floor). Otherwise, at your hour you get one reminder text and the level rises a dollar (never above $30). There is no third outcome.
- What counts as weighing in on time?
- Strictly before your chosen hour. The day is decided at that moment: a weigh-in at or after it — even one minute after — still counts as a miss for that day. Before means before.
- What does it cost if I never miss?
- The floor, every month: $5 for each of the 3 cycles — the low end of $15–$90 over 3 months. That's by design: our best customer pays us the least.
- What happens when I miss a morning?
- You get one reminder text and a dollar on the month's level — that's the whole consequence, and it's the price of the nudge, not a fine. Every later morning you weigh in before your hour takes a dollar back off. The level is capped at $30, charged when the cycle closes, then reset to $5 — worst case across the programme is the top of $15–$90 over 3 months.
- What if I'm already at the $5 floor?
- You stay there. The level can never drop below $5, so at the floor a before-hour weigh-in holds you at the minimum — and after any miss, each one pulls the level back down a dollar. Showing up is never wasted: it's either holding the line or repairing a miss.
- Is my weigh-in photo really private?
- Yes, strictly. A vision model verifies the photo in the moment, then it's discarded — never stored, never seen by a human. Only your most recent reading is kept, just for you, and it's never shared with anyone — not even your accountability partner.
- Can I cancel? Do I get a refund?
- Two very different doors. The guarantee: email [email protected] within your first 30 days and we'll refund you in full — handled personally, no questions, no failure recorded, and your partner is never told. Cancelling in the app instead marks the attempt failed — your partner gets the quit text, you pay for the days you used, and it can't be resumed. We'd rather you know that going in: a commitment you can quietly walk out of isn't a commitment — that's the entire product.
- What's the accountability partner?
- Part of the programme, at no extra charge. Name anyone: they confirm by text, they never see your weight, and they don't need an account. Each week they get a short progress report — whether you showed up, never the number. Beyond that, the only alerts are the one that fires if you quit and a notice if you swap them out — a partner can be swapped but never removed.
- Do I need a smart scale — or a weight goal?
- Neither. Any bathroom scale and a phone is the entire kit, and steps.org is goal-agnostic: losing, gaining, maintaining, or just wanting to know the number again all count. It never judges the reading — it only gets you to see it. It's a habit programme, not medical advice: if you're managing a condition, loop in your clinician.
- What happens after 90 days?
- It ends — that's the point. By then the morning weigh-in is a habit and the scale is just a number, not a bill. If you want another round, you can start one fresh.
