PAWS
Hi! This is Steps, for Walk for the Animals with Riverside Animal Shelter. Every day you walk can give to them. Want to know how it works? Reply STOP any time.
yes, how does it work?
You pick a daily step goal and a monthly gift, like $30. Every day you hit your goal, $1 goes to Riverside Animal Shelter. Miss a day, and nothing is given for it.
what if I only walk some days?
Then you only give for those days, up to your monthly gift. You can change it or stop any time.
What daily step goal feels right? Near what you walk now is a good start.
8000, I think
Every day you hit 8,000 steps, $1 goes to Riverside Animal Shelter. Set up your monthly gift here: steps.org/k7gq2p

Your team is busy caring for the animals

“We wear a lot of hats.”

Steps needs no event day. We set the walkathon up with you once, and supporters join, walk and give by text while your team stays with the animals.

“Facebook posts barely bring anything in.”

A monthly gift goes further than a post. Supporters join with one text, get a mission every morning, and give to the animals on every day they walk.

“We're full and donations are down.”

A year-round walkathon gives every month of the year. Every day a supporter walks, a dollar lands in your own account, and a good month is worth sharing with friends.

A walk for the animals that runs itself

I've built fundraising products and advised nonprofits on keeping supporters close. Shelter teams have no hours to spare, and adopters want a way to give back, so Steps turns their daily dog walk into a monthly gift.

Before you start: why does this cause matter to you? I'll send it back when you need it.
Luna came from this shelter. Best dog we ever had.
Yesterday: 5,120 of 8,400 steps, so yesterday's $1 didn't go through.
You wrote: “Luna came from this shelter. Best dog we ever had.”
Today's mission: 7,800 steps.

Their own reason comes back

When a supporter joins, they write why the shelter matters to them. If a walk slips, that day's $1 doesn't go through, and their own words come back the next morning.

Three steps to your shelter walk

  1. Tell us about your shelter and what you're raising for, from vet bills to a new kennel.
  2. We build the walk with you, with your name, your logo, your join word and your Stripe account.
  3. Share the join word with adopters, volunteers and followers. They give and walk.

More walks, more gifts, all year

Adopters walk the dogs your shelter matched them with, volunteers climb the leaderboard, and every day they walk is a gift to the animals. When someone shares a good month, their friends hear about you.

Questions, answered

Do dog walks count?+

Every step counts, with or without a leash. For a shelter, a walkathon can be as simple as supporters walking their own dogs a little further each day, with a dollar going to the animals every day they do.

How does a year-round walkathon work?+

A supporter sets up a monthly gift, like $30. For every day they hit their daily step goal, $1 goes to your cause. A missed day gives nothing, and they are charged once a month for the days they walked, up to their monthly gift. The more days they walk, the more your cause receives, up to their monthly gift.

How do supporters join?+

Every campaign gets its own join word. Supporters text it to the Steps phone number, or tap your link or scan your QR code, which opens iMessage or WhatsApp with the word already typed. Then they set their daily steps and their monthly gift. One Steps number serves every campaign, so the join word is how Steps knows it's yours.

Can our cause have a leaderboard?+

Yes. Each campaign can have its own leaderboard of days walked, on your campaign page and in the monthly message walkers get. Walkers are only on it if they choose to join, under a name they pick, and they can leave any time.

Where does the money go?+

Straight to your own Stripe account. Steps connects to it when we set up your campaign, and every gift is paid straight to you, so Steps never holds your money. Stripe sends each donor a receipt, and tax receipts stay with you, for the amount actually given.

What does Steps cost?+

Nothing for your nonprofit. When supporters give, they can add an optional tip to Steps, and those tips are how Steps is paid for. Stripe's usual card fees apply to gifts, as they would on any donation page.
