What if the kids wake up mid-answer?+
Put the phone down and go. Your journal stays open until midnight, so finish whenever you're back, at lunch or after bedtime, and it's saved with that day. Say “remind me later” and Steps messages you again when you ask. If nothing's written by early afternoon, one follow-up comes, and you can switch that off.
Can I answer with a baby in one arm?+
Yes, if you have a thumb or a voice free. Voice notes and photos don't reach Steps, but the mic on your keyboard turns what you say into text it can keep. A few words is a full answer, and you can finish the rest later that day.
Can my partner use it too?+
Yes, with their own account. Each account belongs to one phone number, so your partner signs up with theirs and gets their own questions, mornings, 30 free days and amount. Your journals stay separate, and neither of you can read the other's. There's no shared family plan. Steps needs an iPhone, or an iPad or Mac signed into Messages, so it won't work on Android.
What if I write about my kids?+
It stays private and yours. Entries are encrypted, stored in the EU, never sold, never used to train AI and never used in our marketing. Once a day an AI labels entries, including the names you mention, only so you can find them and count a word you keep repeating. Someone at Steps may read a conversation record to make replies better. Before anyone can, we automatically hide the names we can find in it (yours, your kids', anyone you mention) and every email and phone number. Download or delete everything whenever you like.
Can I pick a time after the kids are in bed?+
Yes. You can pick any hour, at sign-up or later by sending Steps a message, and some parents' first quiet minute is after bedtime. The questions it suggests ask about yesterday and today, so they read a little differently at night, and the one afternoon follow-up only comes when your message is set before 1 p.m.
I work shifts. Can the time move with them?+
Partly. You pick one time, on the hour, for any mornings from one a week to all seven, and you can change it by sending Steps a message. On a late day, say “remind me later” to get today's message 5 minutes to 12 hours later. After a night shift, what you send counts for that day, because each day's journal runs midnight to midnight in your time zone.
